Embroidered Appliqué

According to Wikipedia, an embroidered appliqué is a smaller ornament or device applied to another surface in purpose of decoration. The word appliqué is a French word that, in this context, means "that has been applied". 

Historically, appliqués are widely used among quilters, but embroidered appliqué patches are also popular throughout service clubs, military organizations and for sportswear memorabilia.
